Good start for Team Malta in the first day of the Blackball World Championships

On Saturday, the vibrant atmosphere of the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Qawra buzzed with excitement as the 2024 Blackball World Championships kicked off. As the tournament commenced, spectators eagerly gathered to witness thrilling matches showcasing skill and determination.

The Men’s squad started well, beating Northern Ireland 14-11. The Seniors also shone, defeating Gibraltar 18-7 and Northern Ireland 16-9. The Masters impressed too, winning 14-11 against Ireland and 18-7 versus Northern Ireland. However, the Grandmasters lost 14-11 to Ireland before bouncing back to beat Northern Ireland 14-11.

The Women’s team struggled, losing their first two matches 16-9 to Ireland and 15-10 to South Africa.

Youth teams also competed. In the Under-23 category, Malta lost 16-9 to Scotland but thrashed Catalonia 21-4. The Under-18s won 15-10 against both Australia and Ireland but fell 18-7 to England.

In the Under-15 group, Malta beat Ireland 9-6 and Australia 10-5 but narrowly lost 8-7 to Northern Ireland.
