Valanciunas: I see myself in Europe, but I would like a new contract with the Pelicans

New Orleans Pelicans center Jonas Valanciunas talked about a potential return to Europe, as well as plans for the future.

The experienced Lithuanian basketball player has entered his late playing years, so it should not be surprising if we soon see him in one of the European giants.

“I see myself in some European club in the future. I’ve been a fan of European basketball all my life, so I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of playing on the old continent,” said Valanciunas, then added:

“I like teams with Lithuanian players or coaches – like Barcelona, where Sarunas Jasikevicius is the coach, while Rokas Jokubaitis is part of the team. It’s hard to say if I will actually play in Europe one day. It’s one thing to support, and completely different to play for a team”.

The Lithuanian has a valid contract with the Pelicans for another year, and as he says, he would have nothing against extending his cooperation with the current club.

“We spoke with representatives of the Pelicans. I think they will have a difficult task in the summer, they have several important decisions to make. Our season didn’t go the way we wanted it to, so I’m sure there will be changes,” he said, then continued:

“I would like to extend my contract and stay in New Orleans. During the season I try to help the team as much as possible. When summer comes – that’s the time to solve all personal issues, like signing a new contract”, concluded Valanciunas.
