The 2025/26 Maltese basketball season got off to a thrilling start as Starlites narrowly beat Hibernians 101-97 in the Men’s Supercup in front of a lively crowd.
Hibernians introduced their new Polish forward Piotr Stelmach, while Starlites welcomed back Alec Felice Pace after his time playing in Germany.
Starlites took a 26-21 lead after the first quarter, but Hibernians came back strong and led 49-47 at half-time. The game turned again in the third quarter, especially after Stelmach was given an unsportsmanlike foul. Starlites took advantage, with Threadgill hitting a three-pointer on the buzzer to put them 77-67 ahead.
The final quarter was full of drama. Hibernians fought back and briefly took the lead, with Stelmach landing a key three-pointer. With just over a minute to go, the score was level at 94-94. In the final seconds, Scerri was fouled and calmly scored the free shot that sealed a 101-97 win for Starlites.

MBA President Pawlu Sultana handed the trophy to Starlites, who celebrated their fifth Supercup title, and their fourth in a row.
