Julius Randle, a New York basketball player, was fined $25,000 for “offensive vocabulary” he used in statements to the media.
According to the NBA, Randle used offensive language in two separate statements on January 5 after training and on January 6 after the game against Boston.
New York beat Boston 108:105 on January 6, and Randle communicated with the fans on several occasions.
At one point, when the fans were whistling at him, he showed his thumb turned down, and later said that he told them to “shut up”.
On Friday, Julius apologized via social media and said that he should have acted differently.
The Knicks are ninth in the Eastern Conference with 19 wins and 20 losses and are in the race for the playoffs.
