Monaco is competing in the Euroleague for the first time in history, and as things stand, they intend to maintain that status.
The only way for the team from the Principality to keep the status of the Euroleague player for the next season, is to place in the top 8 phase.
Monaco arrived in the most elite basketball competition in Europe from the Eurocup, which means that if they do not choose the placement in the next phase, they will not be part of the elite next season.
Of course, there is always the possibility of a special invitation, but that is a risk that the club’s management does not seem to want to take.
The latest acquisition speaks in favor of their ambitions. The new player of the team from the Principality is Dwayne Bacon.
Bacon is coming to Monaco from the NBA league, more precisely Orlando Magic. In his career, he also played for the Charlotte Hornets, and he made a total of 207 appearances in the strongest league in the world.
Last season, he made 72 appearances for Orlando, of which 50 as a starter, and averaged 10.9 points and 3.1 rebounds per game.
Orlando entered the complete rebuild of the team in the middle of last season, so Bacon’s move to set off on the road to Europe is logical. To return to the NBA league, he will try to win an unusual contract in the Monaco jersey, in which he will play with his teammate from Orlando, Donta Hall.
During the summer, Bacon signed for the New York Knicks, but Tom Tibodo decided that he did not need a player. Dwayne Bacon spoke about Monaco, but also the period in New York.
– Simply put, the Euroleague is the best possible competition after the NBA, and that is why I decided to come to Monaco. Every week we play against teams and players who have been in the NBA league, or have yet to go to the NBA. I did my best to stay there, however it is as it is. The NBA is the toughest league in the world. Now I am starting a new adventure in Europe, and I will do my best in the Monaco jersey. I am still young, and I will try to get into the rhythm as soon as possible by playing in the Euroleague and the French championship – said Dwayne Bacon upon his arrival in Monaco.
