“From our very first discussions with Paul Ferrante, it became immediately evident that he possesses the ambition, leadership qualities and technical knowledge required to guide the Men’s National Team forward,” said MBA President Paul Sultana.

“Paul brings with him a clear strategic vision for the continued growth and long-term development of the national team. His achievements at club level over the years reflect not only a winning mentality, but also an impressive ability to elevate standards, maximise player potential and foster collective excellence within his squads. His extensive experience coaching at the highest level of Maltese basketball made him the ideal choice for this prestigious and demanding position.”

Ferrante’s coaching résumé on the domestic stage is among the most distinguished in Maltese basketball. Across his career, he has led three different teams to seven Men’s Senior Championship titles, five Super Cup triumphs, four Knock-Out titles and five Shield honours. He has also enjoyed significant success at youth level, capturing five Under-23 championship titles with two separate clubs.

Internationally, Ferrante has represented Maltese basketball in youth FIBA competitions staged in Kosovo and San Marino in 2018, while earlier in his coaching journey he also gained valuable exposure through the FISEC Games and Jeux des Îles. Beyond basketball, Ferrante is a respected educator and has dedicated the past 34 years to working at one of Malta’s leading independent schools.

Ferrante takes up his new role with immediate effect and will now begin preparations for the upcoming FIBA European Championship for Small Countries 2026, set to take place in Gibraltar between 23 and 28 June. Malta will compete alongside hosts Gibraltar, Andorra and San Marino.

The MBA also expressed its gratitude to former Head Coach Duncan Fenech for his dedication and contribution over the past two years, while extending its best wishes for his future endeavours.
