In the best game of this year’s EuroBasket, Lithuania lost to Germany after extra time. However, due to the referee’s mistakes in this duel, the Lithuanians decided to lodge a protest.
The Lithuanians are enraged by the mistakes due to which they believe they lost this match.
Namely, at the end of the third quarter, after a technical error by coach Germany, the referees failed to award another free throw to Lithuania, which is why they decided to file a protest note with FIBI after the defeat.
Jonas Valenciunas, who was fouled on that occasion, shot two instead of three shots because the referees “overlooked” the outburst of the German coach.
– When we protested, the delegate just sat there, red in the face, and did nothing. I know we should have won the game before the second overtime, but it was because of that point that we played the extra period. Last time it was Gober, now this. If the referees continue to work like this at Eurobasket, then I don’t even know what to say about FIBA - said his teammate Mindaugas Kuzminskas after the game.
All that remains for the Lithuanians is to turn to the next match against Hungary on Tuesday, and victory is imperative if they want to maintain at least the theoretical chances of reaching the knockout stage of the EuroBasket.
