Greece basketball coach Dimitris Itoudis was satisfied after his team’s triumph over Croatia 89:95 at the start of Eurobasket.
“It was the expected first game against a great team. We didn’t start well, Croatia controlled the game on both sides of the field, but we quickly came back and took the lead with a difference of 16-17 points.
However, then we relaxed against a team that has everything – they tortured us with penetrations and throwing the ball to the three-point line”, said Itudis and added:
“Despite the fact that they came back, we kept our composure in the key moments – we were great on the rebound, forced fouls, played smart. Croatia approached the game well, Mulaomerovic is a great coach, and we had to change a lot of things during the match. Their strategy was to force us to shoot from the outside at all costs, and we prepared for that”.
Greece had 16 offensive rebounds in this match.
“We are still growing as a team, and this is a long tournament. There are many good teams in our group”, concludes Itoudis.
In the second round, Greece meets Italy tonight at 9 p.m.
