Finland is the first participant in Mundobasket

The Finnish basketball players are the first European team to qualify for the 2023 World Cup, which will be held in three Asian countries.

On Friday, Finland defeated Estonia 76:68 and, thanks to Slovenia’s defeat of Germany 90:71, and Sweden’s unexpected victory in Israel 95:83, confirmed their place in Group J.

Finland has a better mutual score than Slovenia and Sweden from the first round of qualifications, which guarantees them one of the first three places in the group.

Sasu Salin led them to a decisive victory in Tallinn with 20 points, Lauri Markanen added 18 with 9 rebounds, while Alexander Madsen had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

The Finns will participate in Mundobasket for the second time in their history, the first time since 2014 when they were 22nd in Spain.

It is only the second team to qualify for Mundobasket after the African selection of Ivory Coast.
