The FIBA 3×3 World Cup, held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, set new records for global reach and online engagement, showing how popular 3×3 basketball has become worldwide.
During the tournament, FIBA 3×3’s social media channels saw over 253 million video views, a big jump from the 160 million views in 2023. There were also 257 million impressions and more than 9 million fan interactions, proving the sport’s fast-paced style continues to attract fans.
Alex Sanchez, managing director of FIBA 3×3, said:
“We’re really proud of the amazing online response. It wouldn’t have happened without the exciting games, passionate fans, and the brilliant hosting in Mongolia.”
FIBA also gained more than 200,000 new followers across its social media platforms before, during, and after the event, showing strong and growing interest in the sport.
The event was also a success on television. This year, a record 26 broadcasters showed the matches in over 200 countries and territories, up from 160 in the previous edition. This gave more people around the world the chance to enjoy the games, which were played at Sukhbaatar Square, a historic venue in the heart of Mongolia’s capital.
Over 50,000 spectators attended throughout the week, with full stands during the knockout stages. Sponsors such as Coca-Cola Mongolia held popular fan activities every day at the venue.
There were also big wins for non-traditional basketball nations. The women’s teams from the Netherlands and Mongolia both earned medals, proving that long-term planning and strong development can lead to success, no matter the country.
With these results, 3×3 basketball is proving to be one of the most exciting urban and Olympic sports. Off the back of this success, FIBA has announced that Mongolia will host the FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup 2027, which will also be held in Ulaanbaatar from 31 March to 4 April 2027.
The next FIBA 3×3 World Cup will take place in Warsaw, Poland, from 1 to 7 June 2026.
