Rimas Kurtinaitis recalled the period when he was sitting on the Anvil bench, when he noticed Steph Curry while looking for new players!
The Lithuanian basketball legend has had a relatively successful coaching career for some time now.
He left the deepest mark on the Khimki bench, but in an interview with “Basket News” he recalled his stay in Poland, where he led the Anvil team.
- It was 2007, I was managing Anvil from Wroclaw and I was looking for a playmaker. I was watching the NCAA tournament because of one player and suddenly another one caught my eye. He handled the ball very well, he had a phenomenal creation, his shot was perfect. I wanted the Davison University point guard in Poland, but I had my eye on that other point guard. I told the agent then “I don’t need that one, I want this other one” – started Kurtinaitis.
Of course, there followed the hilarious reaction of the manager, who was familiar with the “playmaker from Davison”.
- He looked at me while laughing and told me ‘Stop joking, he will be the first pick in the NBA draft next year’. It was Steph Curry. Yes, I wanted Curry in Poland. So, if nothing else, at least I have a good eye for players – the Lithuanian added.
