Athleta’s Malik Riddle has won his second individual award being voted BOV Basketball Player of the Month for January 2024 after winning the same award last November. The American guard, who leads the BOV Basketball 1st Division league in steals with 3.15 per match and fouls suffered at 7.67 per game averaged 28.33 points per game totalling 85 points in 3 games during January with a 60% average from the two-point range.
Hibernians’ Lindsey Whilby won the award for the Women’s League. The 5’11 guard joined Hibernians at the beginning of the season from Kennesaw State University in the NCAA. Whilby was the league’s top scorer with 151 points in 6 games (25.17ppg) averaging 73% from the free-throw line, 53£ from the court and 35% from the distance. Her 11.36 rebound and 2.45 steal average also included an average of 6.17 fouls suffered per game.
Mosta’s Neil Cassar won the award for the BOV Amateur League where he was the league’s top scorer during January with 144 points from 5 games (28.8ppg) with a high 70% in 1-point shots and suffering 37 fouls in 5 games.
Ernest Agius, Chief Operations Officer at Bank of Valletta presented the winners with a commemorative trophy for their achievements. Bank of Valletta is a long-term supporter of the Malta Basketball Association, possibly one of the Bank’s longest running sponsorship relations in this being Bank of Valletta’s 50th year of operations.
