Athleta Basketball Club announced the signing of American guard-forward Akili Evans for the 2026/27 season.
The 6ft 5in player arrived in Malta after an outstanding campaign with Lenoir-Rhyne University in the NCAA, where he was named South Atlantic Conference Newcomer of the Year and earned All-Conference Second Team honours.
Evans averaged 13.9 points per game on 53 percent shooting during that spell and also gained wider attention after landing on SportsCenter’s Top Ten with a highlight dunk.
The Connecticut native also brought NCAA Division I experience from Austin Peay State University and Sacramento State. Athleta said his scoring, playmaking, athleticism and 6ft 9in wingspan would add important qualities on both ends of the floor.
The signing added another overseas option to Athleta’s squad as the club continued its preparations for the new campaign in Malta basketball.
