Medal ceremonies at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham were delayed following a security incident which led to a man being arrested on suspicion of fraud.
West Midlands Police said a man in his 30s was found in a restricted area of Alexander Stadium with incorrect accreditation on Saturday evening.
Transport from the venue was temporarily suspended while additional security checks were carried out, leaving athletes and thousands of spectators facing delays.
Organisers postponed several medal ceremonies until Sunday as a precaution.
Police said there was no immediate threat to the public, while organisers later confirmed that transport operations had returned to normal.
The championships subsequently continued as planned for Sunday’s closing programme.
