Janet Richard and Jared Micallef will be representing Malta at the European Championships being held in Rome over the course of the weekend.
This year’s showcase event features no less than nine individual gold medallists from last year’s World Athletics Championships in what is expected to be an exciting sporting celebrating a few weeks before the highly anticipated Olympic Games in Paris.
Both athletes will compete on the 800m distance in the Olympic Stadium in the Italian Capital were both will be facing the continent’s best athletes. Micallef will run on the first day of the event, tomorrow 7th June, while Richards competes on Monday 10th June.
For 25-year-old Richards, this will be the first time she will be competing on this distance on an international level. She had represented Malta in the World Championships in Doha (2019), the European Championships in Munich (2022) and the World Championships in Budapest (2023) running on the 400m distance.
For Jared Micallef, this will be the first-time representing Malta in such a high-profile event, having earned a gold and silver medal on the 800m and 1500m respectively in last year’s GSSE held in Malta.
The delegation will be accompanied by coach Zeljko Aras and is supported by Sport Malta and the Malta Olympic Committee.
