EAP Malta International Athletics Meeting on Saturday 1st June

The 5th edition of the EAP Malta International Athletics Meeting is being launched by Pembroke Athleta Athletics & Triathlon. It will be held at the Matthew Micallef St John Athletics Stadium on Saturday 1st June 2024.

The EAP Circuit

The EAP (Events for Athletics Promotion) Circuit, is a series of athletics competitions across Europe, organized by fellow members of the EAP.

In 2024 a total of 14 Meetings will have been held in 9 European countries. In these competitions the organizers invite athletes from fellow members of the EAP to participate on a reciprocal basis. Therefore athletes of the Pembroke Athleta Club, every year have a number of opportunities to take part in competitions abroad, where often they also have their costs mostly covered.

What is positive, is the fact that apart from athletes of the fellow members in the EAP, any other athlete can participate in these competitions. Therefore, quite often the technical level of the competition is high and gives a very valuable experience to our athletes, who maybe without these opportunities would have, to either have look for  competitions where they can travel to and pay hundreds of euros to get such an experience, or  have to keep competing against the same local athletes week after week, which obviously doesn’t help much to raise one’s level.

It is good to say that up to this year more than 110 Pembroke Athleta club would have benefited from the opportunity  to compete abroad.. And after this year’s edition we will have brought to Malta around 500 foreign athletes and officials to Participate at the EAP Malta International.

The Fifth Edition of EAP Malta International

The Pembroke Athleta club joined the EAP in November 2018 and with one edition had to be canceled due to the pandemic, we have now arrived at the fifth edition of the EAP Malta International, which will take place on Saturday 1 June 2024 inside the Athletics Stadium in Marsa.

WACT Challenger Meeting

We are pleased to say that EAP MALTA INTERNATIONAL has year after year continued to improve at a technical level. And as perhaps many have become aware, this event has now been given the Status of WORLD ATHLETICS CONTINENTAL TOUR (WACT) – CHALLENGER MEETING and is included in the World Athletics calendar.

This means that EAP Malta is growing in stature and is starting to be sought after by high level athletes who are aspiring to qualify for major international competitions, as the Malta Meeting is now offering them the opportunity to obtain a number of “Ranking Points” that will help them to do this.

Along with these we will obviously have the participation of athletes from delegations of fellow members in the EAP that the Pembroke club is obliged to host.

On a local basis, EAP Malta offers the opportunity for any local athlete (not only the club members) to participate in an international competition, without having to incur travel expenses and accommodation.

The 2024 Edition

This edition will see the participation of a record of over 260 Athletes and Coaches, including more than 120 Maltese athletes, which is also a record in itself..

A total of 6 Member Delegations in the EAP, with a little less than 20 athletes and officials will be with us this weekend.

Another record is that 40 countries (amongst them Malta) will be represented in this Edition, and they will not only come from neighboring countries, but we will even have athletes from distant continents such as Australia, Africa,  America and Asia.

A good number of races and jumping competitions will be a great attraction and highly contested, because in them will take part a number of athletes of a level that maybe we have so far not seen much like them in our country. To mention a few

AUREL MANGA (FRA) – 110mH Finalist at Tokyo Olympics, Bronze Medalist at the World Indoor Championships and twice Finalist at the European Championships.

ANDREA DALLAVELLE (ITA)  Triple Jump Sliver Medalist at European Championships, Finalist at the World Championships, U23 European Champion

MARK ODHIAMBO (KEN)  –  100m Finalist at the African Championships and 3 times National Champion

ANJA LUKIC (SRB)  –  100mH Winner at the Balkan Championships and 6 times National Champion

CIARA NEVILLE (IRL)  –  Silver medalist at U20 World Championships, National Champion

ALYSBETH FELIX (PUE) – –  Long Jump Silver Medalist at Pan-American Games, National Champion

We cannot but mention Maltese athletes who have recently distinguished themselves and who will surely be among the protagonists. We refer in particular to, Beppe Grillo, Graham Pellegrini, and Claire Azzopardi, along with others.

Next Saturday EAP Malta International will be composed of 9 ‘Events’ for men, 7 for women, and 8 ‘Events’  for U16 girls and boys.

Therefore, the Sporting Public is invited to attend FREE OF CHARGE to assist for this show and  to give its support to the athletes

We cannot but mention and thank the main contributors, key among them SportMalta, the Malta Tourism Authority, and the Maltese Athletics Association, who from the first day we put forward our thoughts to enter into this the project, they understood the benefit that both Maltese Sport and Sports Tourism would enjoy from it, and agreed to give their full support.

We also like to thank the other Sponsors, the Organizing Committee, a large number of Officials and Volunteers and last but not least the Athletes
