Athletics Malta launches election for new two-year Council term

Athletics Malta has announced that this year’s Annual General Meeting will be held on 23rd April 2024.

Following the reading and approval of the federation’s annual report and financial statements, members will be called in to vote for the Executive Members of the Council, namely the President, Secretary General and Treasurer, should these three positions be contested.  Following this, members will elect the remaining Council members.

This election will be the first since a historical amendment approved by Athletics Malta earlier this month sought to achieve gender equality in the highest organ of this sport in Malta. To achieve such equality, following an election for four members of the Council, should the result elect three or four members of one gender, the Statue will allow for the election of up to four members of the under-represented gender to ensure this balance.

In a note to member Clubs, outgoing President Aldrin Cassar said: “We warmly invite all individuals who are passionate about athletics and committed to the development of our sport to step up and contribute by standing for election to our executive committee or as a member. This is your chance to play a pivotal role in shaping the direction of our association and driving positive change within our athletic community.”

Nomination forms are now available, and all interested candidates must submit their competed forms no later than 26th of March 2024 to be considered for election.
