Senegal came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against a determined DR Congo team, keeping their unbeaten run going with eight wins or draws in their last nine games.
After a strong win on matchday one, Senegal started well again, firing nine shots at goal before half-time. Sadio Mané came closest with a free-kick that just went wide, while Pape Gueye’s long-range effort was well saved by goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi. DR Congo thought they had scored through Aaron Wan-Bissaka, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
The only goal of the first half came early in the second, but it was for DR Congo. Cédric Bakambu scored from a loose ball after a shaky save from Senegal goalkeeper Édouard Mendy. Senegal responded quickly, with Mané scoring a simple tap-in to level the match just eight minutes later.
After that, Senegal looked the more likely to score again, but neither side could find a winner. The draw keeps Senegal top of the group, just ahead of DR Congo on goal difference, as both teams look ahead to the crucial matchday three.
