'Wonderbawl' and 'over and out': England loss dominates front pages

England fans woke up to painful headlines this morning, with the national newspapers reflecting on the heartbreaking World Cup defeat to Argentina.

The Daily Telegraph declared that “football isn’t coming home” after England narrowly missed out on reaching a first men’s World Cup final in 60 years. The Sun opted for “Wonderbawl”, a play on the famous Oasis song, alongside images of distraught England players.

“Heartache”, “Agony” and “Shattered” were among the other headlines capturing the disappointment, with Jude Bellingham’s dejected reaction featuring prominently.

Despite the defeat, the i Paper praised England for producing their strongest performance of the tournament and taking a deserved lead. Ultimately, however, Argentina proved too determined to be denied a place in the final.
