FIFA World Cup 2026 – Group A
Czech Republic…… 1
South Africa………….1
The Czech Republic and South Africa drew 1-1 in their second FIFA World Cup Group A match, with both teams earning their first point of the tournament. However, the result means both sides now need to win their final group match to have a chance of reaching the knockout stage.
The Czech Republic started strongly and created early pressure. After an attack down the wing, Michal Sadílek scored to give them a 1-0 lead.
South Africa, missing two important players after red cards in their opening match against Mexico, struggled at first but slowly improved and had more possession. Even so, they created very few clear chances before half-time.
After the break, the Czech Republic tried to increase their lead but could not find another goal. South Africa eventually grew into the game and were awarded a penalty after a handball decision. Teboho Mokoena scored confidently to make it 1-1.
Both teams pushed for a winner but neither could score again. The draw leaves qualification difficult, as only a win in their final group games will give them a chance to progress.

For South Africa, reaching the knockout rounds would be a first in their four World Cup appearances. The Czech Republic have also not reached that stage since becoming an independent nation.
