Scotland have withdrawn from a planned behind-closed-doors friendly with Norway ahead of the 2026 World Cup, with injury concerns cited as the reason for the late cancellation.
The two nations had been due to face each other in an unofficial training game on Monday, 8th June, but the match will no longer take place after the Scottish side pulled out.
Norwegian FA media manager Morten Morisbak Skjonsberg confirmed the news. “Today, we learned that Scotland unfortunately had to withdraw from the agreement due to injuries,” he said. “Instead, we will train at Greensboro.”
Norway manager Stale Solbakken admitted the cancellation will force him to change his plans, saying he will now make more changes to his side for their upcoming game against Morocco. The original idea had been to give players who were not expected to feature against Morocco some much-needed minutes on the pitch.

Scotland have already been dealt one injury blow ahead of the tournament, with star midfielder Billy Gilmour forced to withdraw from the World Cup squad after picking up an injury in a 4-1 win over Curacao. However, manager Steve Clarke played down any further concerns following Scotland’s 4-0 victory over Bolivia in their final warm-up game before the World Cup.
