Morocco booked their place in the World Cup quarter-finals with a comfortable 3-0 win over co-hosts Canada, ending the hosts’ impressive tournament run.
Azzedine Ounahi starred for the Atlas Lions, scoring twice to put Morocco in complete control before a late third goal sealed an emphatic victory.
Canada battled hard in front of their home fans but struggled to create clear chances against Morocco’s organised defence. Missing injured captain Alphonso Davies, Jesse Marsch’s side found it difficult to break down one of the tournament’s strongest backlines.
Morocco remained composed throughout and made the most of their opportunities, with Ounahi’s clinical finishing proving the difference. The victory continues the North Africans’ impressive World Cup campaign as they move into the last eight.
The Atlas Lions will now face France in the quarter-finals, while Canada’s memorable run as tournament co-hosts comes to an end.
