FIFA highlighted the achievement in a social media post, recognising the Argentine captain as the player with the highest number of World Cup appearances to date.
Messi has represented Argentina across five different World Cup tournaments, making his debut in Germany in 2006 before going on to become one of the competition’s most influential players.
His World Cup journey includes the triumph in Qatar in 2022, where he captained Argentina to a third world title, alongside numerous memorable performances throughout the years.
The 38-year-old continues to add to an extraordinary international career and could yet extend the record further ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
