Larin off the bench to earn Canada historic World Cup point

FIFA World Cup 2026 – Group Stage – Group B

Canada…………………..……1

Bosnia & Herzegovina……1

Co-hosts Canada earned a 1-1 draw in their 2026 World Cup Group B opener against Bosnia and Herzegovina at BMO Field in Toronto, picking up their first ever point at a World Cup at the seventh attempt.

Bosnia had the first real opening after just three minutes when Amar Memić got on the end of a free-kick but blazed over from close range. Jovo Lukić also headed wide shortly afterwards. Canada’s first meaningful chance came through Jonathan David, but the Juventus striker’s effort was weak and easily saved.

Canada were made to pay for that miss on 21 minutes when Bosnia took the lead. A corner from Ivan Bašić was flicked on at the near post by Sead Kolašinac, and Lukić nodded in from almost on the goal line for his first international goal. Canada responded well but could not create clear chances, and Bosnia went into the break ahead.

After the restart, both sides had chances. Kolašinac produced a brilliant goal-line clearance to deny Richie Laryea, while Maxime Crépeau kept out Ermedin Demirović one-on-one. Canada were denied again on 70 minutes when Nikola Katić cleared Tani Oluwaseyi’s header off the line.

With ten minutes to go, substitute Cyle Larin made an instant impact, latching on to a clever flick from fellow substitute Promise David and firing home a sharp equaliser to send the crowd wild.
