Harry Maguire is reportedly set to miss out on selection for the final England national football team squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, in a decision that has left the defender surprised and disappointed.
The 33 year old has been a regular figure for England since the 2018 World Cup and was part of the squad that reached the final of UEFA EURO 2024, although he was not included in that tournament’s final selection.
Reports from journalist Ben Jacobs and Talksport’s Alex Crook indicate that Maguire is now expected to be left out again ahead of this summer’s World Cup, despite what is described as a strong season at club level.
Maguire has re-established himself as an important player at Manchester United F.C. under Michael Carrick, starting 18 of his 22 Premier League appearances this season.

Following the reports, Maguire expressed disappointment at the expected decision, stating that he believed he could have played a significant role for England based on his performances during the campaign.
He added that he has always valued representing his country and wished the squad well for the tournament.
I was confident I could of played a major part this summer for my country after the season I’ve had. I’ve been left shocked and gutted by the decision.
