FIFA has revealed an ambitious new approach to pre-match ceremonies for the FIFA World Cup 2026, aiming to strengthen the bond between players and supporters while enhancing one of football’s most anticipated moments.
Created with both fans and teams in mind, and inspired by music from the Official FIFA World Cup 2026 Album, the revamped ceremony introduces an immersive 360-degree experience designed to turn the entire stadium into a shared stage. Supporters in every section of the ground will enjoy a unique and engaging view, with oversized national flag displays and specially positioned on-pitch features helping to create a more interactive atmosphere.
Players, accompanied by youth programme escorts, will enter the field from the side nearest to their tunnel through a dedicated ceremonial arch. The presentation will also include a variety of visual features, such as a large central banner placed in the centre circle, handheld national flags, and prominent FIFA branding across the pitch.
In a significant change, every player included in the matchday squad — not only the starting XI — will gather around the centre-circle banner during the national anthems, allowing all squad members to share in the pride and emotion of representing their country on football’s biggest stage.
“As the FIFA World Cup continues to evolve, we are constantly looking for new ways to enhance the experience of the game,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
“Having players and referees face one another in the centre circle during the national anthems will create a powerful moment of unity, pride and emotion that belongs to both the teams and everyone inside the stadium. The FIFA World Cup is for every player and every fan, and this new ceremony reflects that vision.”
After the anthems, attention will shift to the traditional pre-match formalities, including handshakes, official team photographs, and the captains’ coin toss.
As the tournament progresses, FIFA also plans to introduce additional spectacle elements such as coloured smoke and pyrotechnics.
