FIFA World Cup 2026 – Group Stage – Group E

Ivory Coast……….…1

Ecuador……………….0

Ivory Coast made a dramatic start to their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign with a late 1-0 win over Ecuador in Group E, ending Ecuador’s 19-match unbeaten run.

Both teams created chances in an entertaining first half. Ivory Coast threatened early through Bazoumana Touré, whose effort forced a strong save from Ecuador goalkeeper Hernán Galíndez. Ecuador responded well and came close to scoring twice, hitting the crossbar through John Yeboah and Alan Minda.

The second half remained open, with both sides pushing for the breakthrough. Ivory Coast continued to attack and nearly took the lead when Elye Wahi struck the woodwork. Ecuador also looked dangerous, with Gonzalo Plata testing Yahia Fofana with a powerful effort.

As the match looked set to finish goalless, Ivory Coast produced a late moment of quality. In the 90th minute, Wilfried Singo drove forward from his own half before playing the ball across goal for Amad Diallo, who calmly finished to secure all three points.
