Argentina are expecting another difficult challenge when they face Egypt in the World Cup last 16, with players warning that there are no easy matches left in the tournament.
The defending champions needed extra time to beat Cape Verde 3-2 in the previous round and know they will have to be at their best against an Egyptian side full of confidence.
Midfielder Leandro Paredes said the World Cup has shown how competitive international football has become, with surprise results proving that any team can cause problems.
“We know that all national teams are very competitive. Anyone can beat anyone,” Paredes said.
He pointed to Brazil’s shock 2-1 defeat by Norway as another example of how unpredictable the tournament has been.
Defender Nahuel Molina also praised Egypt’s qualities and expects a strong challenge from the African side.
“Nobody gives you anything. Every opponent studies you and everyone gives their all for their national team,” Molina said.
Argentina will look to control the match and continue their defence of the World Cup title, but they know Egypt will be fully prepared for the biggest game in their tournament.
The winners of Argentina vs Egypt will face either Switzerland or Colombia in the quarter-finals.
