The world’s top athletes are set to compete at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, with more than 3,000 competitors from 74 nations and territories preparing to battle for 215 gold medals across 10 sports and six Para sports.
Taking place from 23 July to 2 August, the Games will be staged across four venues in Glasgow and are expected to feature Olympic, Paralympic, world and Commonwealth champions.
Athletics will headline the programme, with Scotland’s Josh Kerr arriving in outstanding form after breaking the world one-mile record. He will be joined by fellow Scottish stars Jake Wightman, Neil Gourley, Laura Muir and Eilish McColgan, while England’s Georgia Hunter-Bell and Zharnel Hughes, Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson and Canada’s Andre De Grasse are among the biggest names in action.
One of the most anticipated events will be the men’s javelin, where India’s Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra will renew his rivalry with Pakistan’s reigning Olympic champion and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Arshad Nadeem.
The swimming competition also promises a star-studded field, led by Britain’s Adam Peaty and South Africa’s Chad le Clos, who needs just one more medal to become the most decorated male athlete in Commonwealth Games history. Australia will once again field a strong team featuring Mollie O’Callaghan, Kyle Chalmers and Cameron McEvoy.
Cycling fans will see Olympic champions Matthew Richardson and Emma Finucane in action, while Scotland’s Neil Fachie is set to compete in the final races of his distinguished career.
Elsewhere, Olympic medallists and world champions will compete across artistic gymnastics, boxing, judo, bowls, netball, weightlifting, para powerlifting and 3×3 basketball.
Glasgow 2026 is also set to feature the biggest track cycling, swimming and 3×3 basketball competitions in Commonwealth Games history, along with a record-breaking Para sport programme.
The Games are expected to attract thousands of visitors to the Scottish city and generate an estimated £150 million for the local economy, while further strengthening Glasgow’s reputation as a leading host of major international sporting events.
