Malta gymnasts complete women’s artistic programme Glasgow 2026

The Malta gymnastics team completed its women’s artistic programme in the opening Commonwealth Games subdivisions on Saturday, posting a combined score of 130.750 at Glasgow 2026.

Philippa Busuttil led the Maltese trio with an all-around total of 45.900, while Sophie St John scored 44.550 and Lyana Curmi Inguanez finished on 40.300. Their combined mark placed Malta at the top of the provisional team standings after the first two subdivisions, ahead of Namibia, with the remaining leading nations still due to compete later in the day.

Busuttil leads Maltese effort

Busuttil’s strongest score came on the balance beam, where she earned 12.850 after a confident routine that included an assured acrobatic series and a double-full dismount. The performance helped her sit fourth in the provisional individual all-around standings after subdivision two.

St John was fifth at that stage on 44.550, adding another composed contribution across the four apparatus. Curmi Inguanez’s 40.300 completed Malta’s team total as the three gymnasts worked through vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome.

The final rankings and qualification positions will only be confirmed once all subdivisions have concluded. Saturday’s programme included several of the competition’s stronger teams.

Glasgow campaign continues

Busuttil, St John and Curmi Inguanez are part of the 22-athlete Maltese delegation competing across seven sports in Glasgow. Their selection was confirmed earlier this month when the Maltese Olympic Committee announced its Commonwealth Games contingent.

The Glasgow Games continue until 2 August, with Maltese athletes also entered in athletics, judo, swimming, weightlifting and para powerlifting.
